Remember like anything else that benefits you or is worth while, networking is work and takes a lot of it. You cannot just expect to start networking and in a weeks time have a massive network that will land you a six figure job, or help you sell a million dollars worth of product.
And with respects to Social Media, it is merely the latest vehicle in which networking is done. But like anything else it or any other vehicle of networking cannot do the work for you.
While there may be dangers that are associated with Social Media, there is potential for benefit. The key is to identify the right platforms to use, how to use them for your professional benefit, and what content to include and excluded. Using Social Media goes in line with the saying, “everything in moderation.”
While admittedly Social Media is fun, new, and can be exciting, it can also be dangerous. In fact, if you are using social media to connect with people for professional purposes there are several dangerous attributes of Social Media you can and probably will run into. The key is to identify these pitfalls and avoid them.
Just a reminder; be careful of what you post, avoid spamming and spammers, and make sure people you connect with have some meaning. The question you should ask yourself before joining any given network is, What is the purposes of this Social Media? and, What am I using it for? If you cannot answer one of the two then you should not use that particular Social Media.
